About the Developing Instructor Scheme

The DI Scheme is essentially the follow on year to the Trainee Instructor Scheme.  Within the year our DI’s go further in terms of NGB qualifications, adding to their already extensive list of qualifications.  Have a look at the link below to see the timetable (what qualifications & when).  It should be noted that our DI’s are always selected from our TI scheme FIRST.

NGB Training & Assessments

* Level 2 Cave Leader Training (with the BCA, the pre-requisite to this is to have done 30 level 2 cave trips prior the training course)
* 3 Star Kayak Award (a pre-requisite of the Level 2 Paddlesports Coach Assessment)
* Level 2 Paddlesports Coach Training (with the BCU)
* Level 2 Paddlesports Coach Assessment
* ML Training (with the MLTE)
* ML Assessment (a pre-requisite is having done 20 Quality Mountain Days between training & assessment)
* Level 2 Mountain Bike Assessment (with MIAS)
* PCV Minibus Practical Test (you are qualified to drive a minibus for hire & reward)

It should be noted that during your Developing Instructor year the qualifications route now becomes more difficult.  What we mean by this is that you are now going from being a ‘multi-activity’ skilled instructor INTO a ‘highly technically’ skilled multi-activity instructor.  In particular you will be progressing in paddlesports, caving and mountain biking, whilst becoming a qualified minibus driver and mountain leader.  The pre-requisites MUST be met in order for you to take the training and assessment courses, this requires a dedicated and disciplined approach to the year.

Pay & Benefits

£400 pcm and board & lodgings, all relevant memberships, log books etc to the different national Governing Bodies and High Adventure Clothing.

We always look to select our DI’s from our existing TI’s first.  If there is no uptake from our TI’s, we will then advertise externally, but it should be noted that last year ALL TI positions were taken by our existing TI cohort.
