Multi-Activity Instructor Vacancy
An opportunity is now available at our Outdoor Education Centre on the edge of North Yorkshire, close to Skipton, for a multi-activity instructor who holds their minibus licence and basic NGB qualifications.
Depending on experience and the NGB qualifications of the applicant we have an opportunity to bring you into the 2nd or 3rd year of our developing instructor scheme. As part of the package High Adventure will provide training and assessments in relevant NGB qualifications, accommodation, food, access to kit and the opportunity to work with a range of client groups. Wage & end of year bonus depends on the level you enter at. 25 days holiday per calendar year, two weeks of which must be taken at Christmas shut down and no holidays are to be taken in June or July.

This post is perfect for anyone aspiring to be an outdoor instructor or anyone with a passion for the outdoors who would like to gain experience working with children.
We will provide full training in all of our on-site activities and an HSE recognised first aid course prior to being in charge of groups.
Working on our summer camps is the best way to into our highly successful and popular trainee instructor scheme which runs from January every year at our main site in North Yorkshire.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with groups and skills in one or more areas of outdoor activities.
If you can handle living in a tent for the length of the contract through good weather and bad whilst still turning up for work happy and enthusiastic every day, then you are the right person for this job!

Climbing Club Instructor (Part-time)
We are looking to recruit a part-time instructor to run our popular indoor Climbing Club sessions every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening (term-time only).
The club is run for children aged 6 and over who have varying levels of climbing ability.
The successful candidate will ideally hold either CWA or SPA, although this is not essential as in-house training will be provided. Experience of working with children and knowledge of the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme would be beneficial and the role will be subject to DBS checks.
6.00pm – 7.30pm (plus set up and pack up time before and after each session)
£20 per night

Trainee Outdoor Instructors
Yorkshire Dales – Positions have now been filled for 2014 at our Yorkshire Dales site.
Trainee Outdoor Instructors (6 positions – 3 male & 3 female)
APPLICATIONS will in the FIRST instance be taken from staff who worked on one of our Summer Multi Activity Camps (Lakes / Staffordshire) See the further down for more details about summer positions.
(12 month contract – with the possibility to continue onto the Developing Instructor Scheme)
Selection Process: We ‘select’ our ‘trainees’ via a week long (7 day) trial at High Adventure. During this week you will spend time with a variety of different members of HA staff and get to experience a variety of different activities / tasks. The intention of this process is for you to fully understand & appreciate what is involved whilst working at HA and to allow us to get to know you and see what makes you tick.
Pay: £300 per month + Board & Lodgings + Registration fees & log book fees to the relevant National Governing Bodies + Training & Assessment fees for the relevant NGB Awards (as per below) + £385 technical clothing allowance. An additional £100 – 200 pcm is available through the working tax credit scheme for all succesful applicants over the age of 25.
During the year you will be expected to work towards your National Governing Body qualifications in the following:
- Training & Assessment – Climbing: Single Pitch Award
- Training & Assessment – Caving: Level 1 Local Cave Leaders Award
- Canoeing: Level 1 Canoe Coach, 1 star, 2 star & 3 star Canoe, Canoe Safety Test, Level 2 Canoe Coach (if your ability is proven)
- Mountain Biking: Level 1 (Trail Leader) & Level 2 (Technical Leader)
- 16 hours First Aid Training & Assessment
- Minibus Driving (PCV) – Registration to the DVLA, Medical Examination, PCV Theory Test (so that you are ready for your PCV Minibus Practical Test)
Added to these will be training and assessment in
- High Ropes Course
- Low Ropes Course
- Indoor Climbing Wall
- Abseil Platform
- Team Building & Problem Solving
- GCSE delivery of Mountain Biking; Climbing; Canoeing & Orienteering
- Hill Walking / Local Adventure Walk
- Gorge Walking / Canyoning
With training & continued professional development in all areas surrounding the work required of an instructor in a medium sized outdoor education centre.
The position comes with domestic duties which should not be overlooked, the domestic duties involve working every other weekend in a domestic capacity.
Your duties would include food delivery & cleaning the centre during the weekend.
High Adventure Outdoor Education Centre is a medium sized centre sitting on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales (5 miles south of Skipton). Catering for School & Youth groups, Stag & Hen weekend groups & Corporate groups.
Applicants must be 22 and have a full driving licence as well as a drive to succeed within the outdoor industry, we are not looking to take on anyone with the notion of this becoming some sort of gap year type option. Only applicants that can demonstrate that they are wanting to enter the outdoor industry for the long term will be successful.
