Ponden Reservoir was built in the early 1870’s as a compensation reservoir for the former Keighley corporation waterworks, to supply water to the mills in the Worth Valley. The reservoir now owned by Yorkshire Water supplies drinking water for the high level areas of Keighley, parts of Oxenhope and Crosshills.
Ponden Reservoir is located west of Haworth and is popular for its watersports facilities. Ponden Watersports provides membership for users of canoes, dinghies, sailboards etc (non motorised activities). Members can sail, or use other approved craft, on this beautiful reservoir set high in the Yorkshire Pennines. There is usually a good wind with challenging changes of speed and direction in various areas of the water. Ponden is a great place to learn to sail or canoe as the water is often un-crowded.
