English Language Courses

Want to improve your English Language & have fun in the UK?

Why not book your group for a 1, 2, 3 or 4 week English Language course at High Adventure Outdoor Education Centre.

Learning English at High Adventure, in England with the English is a unique experience.  High Adventure is run by teachers for teachers, we provide 1st class learning environments, ensuring we get the most out of our visiting students.  We have decades of teaching experience and have managed to create the most positive of learning environments.  Students are able to learn English formally and then put this into action in a variety of situations.  Our programmes include exciting outdoor activities such as climbing, canoeing, high ropes, mountain biking along with other social situations such as the cafes, shopping centres & other local attractions the North of England has to offer.

English skills are taught using a variety of teaching styles & methods.  Formal grammar, extensive vocabulary, group work, written & oral work and all in a very good teacher to pupil ratio, with an absolute maximum of 12:1.  Groups can choose themes in advance for their students to focus on, this is all part of our ‘bespoke’ programming service.

Who we work with:
Our courses are for all ages – we work with primary school groups (aged 10-11); secondary schools (aged 11-16) & colleges (aged 16-18), but it’s predominantly 11-16 year olds that come to the centre followed by 16-18 year olds.
All our English Language Courses are tailored to the specific age & ability of the group.  Ensuring that the English lessons are pitched at the correct level.  From the point of view of the the outdoor activities and day trips – these activities work for all ages, primary schools through to adults.

Language ability level:
Getting the right ability level for your group is incredibly important.  Prior to your arrival, we ensure that we understand the precise level of English Language ability and then place them onto the corresponding English course.  On arrival your students are assessed by our tutors and then put into the relevant class to match their ability.

Along with a full programme of English Language lessons, we also provide an integrated programme of outdoor activities such as climbing, caving, canoeing, mountain biking and trips to places such as Old Trafford – the home of Manchester United; York – with its famous castle walls & minster and much more; Liverpool – a tour of the Beatles Museum and the shopping delights of the Albert Docks; Leeds – the Royal Armouries, Corn Exchange & Victoria Quarter; Blackpool – the Pleasure Beach & shopping centre; Chester – the Roman Walled City & Chester Zoo.

FAQ’s:
Q. Do you have WIFI?
A. Yes, the centre has WIFI throughout, so being in contact at all times is no problem.

Q.  What about things to do in the evening?
A.  As part of the programme is a full evening activity itinerary, there are some preiods of ‘downtime’, which gives our students a little time to relax with their ‘new friends’, call home etc.  the centre has 2 TV rooms with DVD’s, we also have a games room, TV room, training room, conference room and other social spaces.

Q.  Are there any additional costs?
A.  No, none whatsoever.  You pay one price which is for your 1 week, 2 week (or more) booking + your airport transfer cost & ‘Day Trip’ supplement.  This cost is worked out at the point of booking and then that is it.  There are no ‘hidden charges’.

Q.  What is the food like?
A.  The short answer is – It’s GREAT!  All meals are very well liked by all our students and this has been the case for the last 10 years.  You can eat as much as you like, every main meal comes with ‘salad’ as an extra, the menu is fixed – but caters for those who are vegetarian, require  halal or have any food allergies.  The menu is downloadable, to see it have a look on our downloads page.

Q.  Do you have a tuck shop?
A.  Yes we do and it sells the usual stuff young people may want.  In addition to this there are several day trips and excursions giving your son / daughter the opportunity (if they wish) to buy things for themselves or presents for their family.  But it should be noted that there is no need for them to have to buy anything in their entire stay with us.

Q.  I have specific query, what should I do?
A.  Please contact us immediatley or whilst your son / daughter is staying with us.  You will be given a 24 hour a day contact details, so you can get in touch with us at absolutely all times.
